Honduras: the Country and People
Honduras is a country that has many contrasts. The gross per capita income is only $1600 a year. Thus making it one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Agriculture, and fishing are the predominate industries along the coast, and in most parts of Honduras. However there are some rich mineral deposits that are mined, including gold. The topography is made up of agriculture land, mountains, coastal land, islands, and tropical forrests. The capital,Tegucigalpa, is the largest city, and is the governmental center. The second largest city is San Pedro Sula. It is the industrial center of Honduras. The main industries are cigar manufacturing, bannana exporting, textile and clothing manufacturing and exporting, and manufacturing of wiring harnesses for the U. S. automobile industry. These industries only employ about 130,000 people, out of 2.8 million who are employable. The other industry in Honduras is tourism, but is limited because of poor conditions and crime. The Islands of Roatan and surrounding islands do have a growing population of vacation homes, and retirement homes for people from other more affluent countries.
Because of economic difficulties, diseases such as AIDS, unsafe water, unsanitary conditions, opression, and other conditions, the Honduran people as a whole are very much in need of any help that can be given to them. Despite all of this the Honduran people are cheerful and friendly.
San Pedro Sula is in many ways just like any large city in other parts of the world. There are tall buildings, museums, shopping malls, and restaurants. In contrast to the tall buildings of San Pedro Sula, the neighborhoods are divided up with different names, and where the face of poverty is seen. San Pedro Sula is the area that a group of high school and college age students led by Dan Moran and his international missions. Dan leads several mission groups every year to Honduras. He handles the logistics in the U. S. and has an onsite director that coordinates in San Pedro Sula.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The teens and college age students are appealing for your help. In order to undertake a project such as this, it will take funds to do so. The funds are needed not only so the workers can be transported to Honduras, but also for needed supplies, and donations.
This is not the first time the group has done mission activities. The group has been participating in mission outreach projects for a number of years. The last three projects that I have been involved with have been to Vero Beach, Florida to help rebuild after a hurricane, Virginia Beach, Virginia to help with home repairs for senior citizens, and to Nikiski, Alaska to build and repair homes for those in need. These young people have worked hard, and did things that they previously thought they could not do. Some of the examples are: exterior painting, re-roofing, building wheelchair ramps, re-build deck, installing windows, installing insulation, worked on building a home, clean-up, and yard work etc. Teen mission projects not only benefit the people being served, but also those serving. Seeing, working, experiencing doing something that serves instead of self-serves, molds them into valuable adult citizens of tomorrow. Not only is serving important, but being given the opportunity to show God's love, and to lead someone to the saving grace of Jesus Christ, cannot be substituted.
A website has been set up in support of this mission project. My Heart For Honduras has more details and information about the project. Also, if you need to do any shopping, you will see on the website how you can do your regular shopping, but at the same time help us with the mission trip to Honduras. Along with this, please Pray. This is the most important thing you can do for us. After reading this, and clicking to the website, you will see why I give my heart to Honduras.

My wife has such a big heart for these children. She produced a video about 10 years ago of her trips down there. When we think we have it so bad we should think of these people -and while we are thinking we send $5 - or $50 - or $500
